Iffley Wool Felt Hat
The Iffley is Christys' everyday trilby — and in that description lies its particular distinction. Not a hat for a single occasion or a specific season, but a hat made to be reached for without deliberation and worn without self-consciousness, day after day, for years. It is a hat with the quiet confidence of something that has nothing to prove.
It begins as the finest Merino wool, sourced and felted in Portugal — a country with a long tradition of producing wool felt of exceptional fineness and consistency. Merino is the most refined of the wool fibres, extraordinarily soft against the skin and capable, when correctly felted, of producing a surface of real depth and subtlety. The felt arrives in Christys' factory in Oxfordshire, where it is worked by hand using the traditional method that the brand has maintained since its founding — brim and crown crafted separately, then united and finished with ribbons chosen to complement the precise shade of each hat.
The result is a trilby of measured proportion — a silhouette that is neither imposing nor inconsequential, simply correct. It wears easily with a coat on a winter morning, equally well with a jacket in early autumn. It is, in the truest sense of a much overused phrase, a hat for everyday wear.
Two colourways are offered. Black is the foundation — present in every serious hat wardrobe and the natural first reach. Bessemer is the more considered choice — a deep, steely tone with an industrial heritage behind its name and a quiet authority in wear that repays the decision to choose something other than black.
