These five techniques address common points of failure in worn hats, from seam creep to a rolled edge. Practical, hands-on methods follow for fitting interlinings, calibrating stitch tension, binding brim edges, reinforcing the crown-to-brim joint, and blocking and hand-finishing to preserve a crisp, long-lasting brim.

1. Fit structural interlinings to preserve the hat's shape
Select the interlining according to the brim character you intend to achieve.
